What is an ELD device, exactly?

An ELD is the hardware the FMCSA requires most commercial drivers to use for recording Hours of Service. It connects to a truck's engine control module through the diagnostic port and automatically captures driving time, on-duty time, and vehicle movement, replacing the paper logbook. Instead of a driver filling in times by hand, the device records what the engine is actually doing, then sends that data to an ELD app, where it becomes the official record shown at roadside inspections.

Reads engine data automatically

No manual entry — the device records what the truck is doing.

Sends logs to your ELD app

Data moves over Bluetooth in real time, in the background.

Standardizes roadside records

One consistent format inspectors already know how to check.
